QB Seth Russell lights it up in Baylor's first scrimmage
The biggest question for Baylor going into this season is whether junior Seth Russell can maintain the Bears' recent standard of excellence at quarterback.
Saturday was a good sign, as Russell delivered a near flawless performance in Baylor's first scrimmage of the preseason. He completed his first nine attempts, and finished 17-of-21 passing for 233 yards and three touchdowns.
"I knew he was good and I knew he was on," coach Art Briles said to ESPN. "I thought he was really calm. I thought he made some good checks at the line of scrimmage and protected the football. He's just continually gotten better the last three days. I think his confidence level is really rising."
Russell's big plays included a 77-yard touchdown pass to Corey Coleman and an 18-yard scoring strike to tight end Tre'Von Armstead.
