Penn State Makes Ben Hutch's Top Three

On Sunday afternoon the Penn State Nittany Lions made the top three for three-star defensive tackle recruit Ben Hutch.

On Sunday afternoon Penn State’s coaches got good news on the recruiting front. Three-star defensive tackle Ben Hutch released his top three. And the Nittany Lions are among his top three schools.

The other schools to make Hutch’s top three are Louisville and Texas A&M. Hutch is six-foot-three and checks in at 315 pounds. He is a native of Hillsboro, Tennessee.

Hutch took an official visit to Penn State for the Nittany Lions’ thrilling 29-26 overtime victory against Minnesota two weekends ago. Prior to the visit Hutch had not visited campus. However, he has long had a relationship with James Franklin and his staff.

While I believe Louisville remains the team to beat for Hutch, the Nittany Lions are definitely gaining steam. His mom was a huge fan of Happy Valley, the coaching staff, and everything else they experienced on his official visit. It never hurts to have mom’s stamp of approval.

I would consider it an upset if Ben Hutch selects Penn State. However, it would not be nearly as big of an upset as it would have been a few weeks ago. Yet again, this coaching staff has done an excellent job of putting themselves in a position for a recruit that in past years never would have even considered Penn State.

Right now, Hutch plans to announce his college commitment in December. He plans to take official visits to each of his other two finalists between now and then. This will also make it difficult for the Nittany Lions to land his commitment. But they have a puncher’s chance, which is always better than having no chance at all. Especially with the Nittany Lions primed to finish the season strong with a very manageable remaining schedule after the Buckeyes.
