Oregon Football: Jimmie Dougherty Leaves Ducks For UCLA Bruins

Jimmie Dougherty lasted three weeks with Oregon Football before leaving Wednesday for some familiarity with the UCLA Bruins.

Back in December when Head Coach Willie Taggart was handed the keys and told he could hand pick his staff, he went to work. He brought in the best of the best for the program starting with Defensive Coordinator Jim Leavitt. Recently, two of his assistants found trouble. David Reaves resigned rather than being fired following a DUII incident with Eugene Police.

On Wednesday it was announced that another member of the staff, Jimmie Dougherty was also departing Eugene for a position with the UCLA Bruins. Dougherty was in the car with Reaves when he was pulled over. Taggart now has to refocus his efforts on recruiting – but not for student athletes.

It has been seven weeks since Dougherty ws hired by Oregon Football. He was hired away and named Wide Receivers Coach and Passing Game Coordinator for the UCLA Bruins. JIm Mora needs a shot in the arm after a 4-8 season. Dougherty was an analyst for Jim Harbaugh at Michigan last season.

The Michigan connection is what likely made him spurn the Ducks for the Bruins. Michigan Wolverines Assistant Jedd Fisch also headed to UCLA to become Offensive Coordinator according to ESPN. You can’t really blame Dougherty for leaving Oregon for familiarity.

Head Coach Willie Taggart has to replace two Assistant coaches and we already know his choices will have a few things in common, including being top-notch recruiters.
