Ole Miss Football: Q&A with Dawn of the Dawg
We caught up with Dawn of the Dawg Editor Jay Hawkins to learn a little more about the Georgia Bulldogs in advance of Saturday’s game with Ole Miss.
Georgia has found a way to win close games so far this season. What has led to the Bulldogs being able to close things out in the end?
The heart of this team is what sets them apart. That can be said for almost every Georgia team. They never give up, and they keep fighting. Also, Jacob Eason’s gradual emergence at quarterback has helped as well. I think you have to give credit to the coaching staff as well for winning at least two games Georgia could have easily lost.
Jacob Eason appears to have taken over full time at QB. How comfortable is he in the offense as a true freshman?
I’d say he’s doing pretty well considering his lack of experience. He’s the future of this Georgia team and has already shown flashes of greatness including throwing the game-winning touchdown pass against Missouri last week. His comfort level is still growing, but I feel like he knows UGA offensive coordinator Jim Chaney’s system pretty well and will only get better as the weeks go by.
What are the strengths and weaknesses of the Georgia defense?
The strengths of this Georgia team are their middle linebackers and stopping the run. This defense’s biggest weakness is their secondary as Missouri torched the Dawgs through the air particularly in the first half of the game last Saturday.
What does the Georgia fan base think of Kirby Smart so far as a head coach?
Patiently optimistic. Every Bulldog fan is confident that Kirby Smart will bring championships to his alma mater UGA; it is a matter of when not if. Georgia fans know they’ll have to wait until Smart gets his guys for Georgia to be really good.
