Ole Miss DB Tony Connor feared lost for the season

An injury which was suppose to sideline junior defensive back Tony Connor for four to six weeks may turn out to be significantly worse, Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze announced Tuesday. 

“I’m concerned about it, but I don’t have a real update,” Freeze said. “I’ve just talked to Tony. Where it should be right now? I don’t know. I probably shouldn’t even say that right now. There’s no question that losing him, (defensive tackle) Issac (Gross) and (linebacker) C.J. (Johnson) off our defense is a blow. Those are three veterans, two seniors.

“It sure would be nice to get them back, but it will be nice next year to have Issac back for sure, and Tony also looks like now that’s going to be best for him. We’ll miss them the rest of the season for sure. It changes us some. We’ve got to make due without them.”

Connor tore his meniscus in the win over Alabama on Sept. 19. The junior had been playing some of the best football of his career this season playing the "Huskie" position of the Ole Miss 4-2-5 defensive alignment. 

Coming into the season, many NFL Draft pundits had Connor pegged as a likely first-round draft selection in the 2016 NFL Draft. How his injury affects his lofty draft status remains to be seen at this point.
