Ohio State assistant Greg Schiano hit a cyclist near campus
New Ohio State defensive co-coordinator Greg Schiano hit a 26-year-old student on a bicycle with his vehicle on Thursday morning, the school has acknowledged.
According to the Columbus Dispatch, Schiano was heading east near the Buckeyes' stadium when he hit the westbound cyclist at 6:50 a.m. The crash remains under investigation.
The student is in stable condition. Schiano as unharmed.
In a statement to Cleveland.com, an Ohio State spokesperson said: "This accident is under investigation by Columbus police, and so there is nothing more we can share at this time while the investigation is underway. Our concern is with the young man who was injured and doing everything we can to support him."
Schiano joined the Buckeyes in the offseason, two years removed from his firing as head coach of the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Before that he had a long, successful run at Rutgers, winning coach of the year honors in 2006.
Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer brought him in to team with Luke Fickell in running the defense.
