North Dakota's Harris will miss 2017 season

(STATS) - One of the best secondaries in the FCS was dealt a setback Wednesday morning when North Dakota senior cornerback Deion Harris suffered a lower leg injury which will sideline him for the 2017 season.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Harris was injured during a conditioning workout, coach Bubba Schweigert announced.

"We received some tough news today regarding an injury Deion Harris suffered. Our team will rally around Deion and support him throughout the rehabilitation process," Schweigert said.

As a junior, Harris was a first-team All-Big Sky selection for the conference co-championship squad. He totaled a conference-high five interceptions and broke up nine other passes.

The Hibbing, Minnesota, native is considered a prospect for the 2018 NFL Draft, but he has the option to use a redshirt season and return to North Dakota for another season.

The Fighting Hawks are scheduled to report for fall camp on Aug. 1.
