Nick Saban says Reuben Foster is a great teammate but not a candy striper

Former Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster continues to try to mend fences after his behavior at the NFL Combine over the weekend led to him making an early exit.

Foster grew impatient with a hospital worker during his medical exam, resulting in what was called a “heated argument” and his dismissal from the combine on Saturday. Earlier this week, he reportedly sent a letter to all 32 NFL teams and apologized for his behavior.

On Wednesday, Foster got a chance to meet with NFL personnel at Alabama’s pro day. And Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban took the opportunity to defend the character of a young man he called a “great player,” a “great leader” and a “great team guy.”

Saban also snuck in a great one-liner at the end, though – shockingly – he didn’t even crack a smile in the process:

“If you’re looking for a good teammate to be on your team, Reuben’s going to be very, very good. If you’re looking for somebody to be a candy striper and be nice to everybody at the hospital, maybe not.”
