Narduzzi says Pennsylvanians would vote for Pitt, PSU to play 12 weeks a year

Pittsburgh and Penn State have not played each other in football since 2000, but the hiatus of the series will end next September when the Nittany Lions visit the Steel City. In 2017, the Panthers will return the favor with a game in State College.

The teams will meet again in 2018 and '19, but will that be it?

New Panthers head coach Pat Narduzzi hopes not.

"In the state of Pennsylvania, (the) Pitt-Penn State football game is where it starts," Narduzzi told reporters at ACC Football Media Days. "I think in the state of Pennsylvania, if they could play that game 12 weeks out of the year, they would vote yes to do that. It's an in-state rivalry. You know that's a rivalry. I'm all for keeping that thing going. I know Scott Barnes, our athletic director, is working on that."

The teams first played in 1893 and have met 96 times with Penn State owning a 48-42-4 advantage in the series.
