N.C. State coach Doeren offers no apologies for 'softest' schedule

N.C. State’s 2015 non-conference schedule was recently named the softest in the Power Five by FOX Sports, but Wolfpack coach Dave Doeren refused to apologize for scheduling his opponents.

“Building the team is the most important thing, not making Fox happy or making anyone happy,” Doeren told the Courier-Tribune.

This season N.C. State’s schedule includes recently anointed Football Bowl Subdivision teams South Alabama and Old Dominion, along with Troy and Football Championship Subdivision members Eastern Kentucky.

“When you’re playing with 70 percent of your team as young as we are, I think we did the right thing,” Doeren told the Courier-Tribune.

While the Wolfpack’s non-conference schedule may be soft, playing in the Atlantic Division with national powers Florida State and Clemson is no picnic.

“I still think we play in the toughest side of a conference of anybody right now,” Doeren told the Courier-Tribune. “That’s part of what goes into setting up the other part of our schedule.”
