Muschamp eager to return to the practice field
As the Auburn Tigers kick off fall camp Tuesday, they will be looking to regain the defensive form that helped lead the team to the 2011 BCS National Championship after holding Oregon to only 19 points.
To help them find their way is of course Will Muschamp, who just so happens to be looking for some redemption himself after being fired as Florida's head coach last season.
"The talking season is over. We need to play some football," Muschamp said before the first day of camp, according to AuburnTigers.com.
"We're changing the culture a little bit to get back to Auburn defense. At the end of the day, that's what this place was founded on…playing good defense and understanding that. Coach Malzahn always talks to our players about the standard. We've talked to our players about the defensive standard here at Auburn, and understanding with where we're going to go with that."
So far, how does Muschamp like what he's seen of his unit and the progressions they've made since his arrival last December?
"I think we made a lot of strides through spring ball. I was very pleased with our attitude, No. 1, and our effort and our buy-in," Muschamp said.
With their hiring of Muschamp, the Auburn Tigers won the "talking season" in the minds of many pundits, however now we find out if Muschamp truly is the man for the job. Given Gus Malzahn's track record, if Muschamp can simply field a competitive defense this season at Auburn, that may be enough to get the Tigers back to Atlanta for the first time in two seasons.
