MSU's Drummond looking ahead to NFL opportunity after draft snub

Kurtis Drummond had to make a quick transition over the weekend -- from figuring out what team would draft him to figuring out what team would be best for him.

He initially did not think he would have the latter choice, but that changed when the 2014 Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year was not drafted.

He told SpartanTailgate he looked over various depth charts before settling on the Houston Texans, who signed Drummond to a free-agent contract and will get an up-close look at him this weekend during their rookie minicamp.

“I just really wanted a team that I could have a legit chance to really go in and show them the type of player and the type of safety that I am, just the type of person that I am," Drummond said.

He credited his family with helping him stay upbeat as each round of the draft came and went.

“That’s what kept my mind off of things not going as maybe I wanted them to go, but how God’s plan is," Drummond told SpartanTailgate. "That’s all my mom kept telling me. Just continue to have faith in God. “
