Morton takes control as Prairie View crushes Texas Southern
PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (AP) — Jalen Morton ran for three touchdowns and threw for another and Prairie View beat Texas Southern 60-14 on Saturday.
Prairie View (5-6, 4-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference) was coming off a 66-13 win over Alabama State last week. On Sept. 22, the Panthers beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 62-13.
Morton completed 18 of 26 passes for 185 yards and an interception. He ran 10 times for 111 yards. Backup quarterback Trazon Connley finished off the win completing all 12 of his pass attempts and two touchdowns. The Panthers scored touchdowns on six of their first eight first-half possessions and built a 40-14 lead. Prairie View scored 27 points in the second quarter and 20 in the third.
Despite 13 penalties for 113 yards, the Panthers outgained Texas Southern (2-9, 1-7) 579-185. The defense limited the Tigers to 34 yards rushing on 22 attempts.
Glen Cuiellette threw for 119 yards and a touchdown for Texas Southern, which ended the season with three straight defeats.
