More Oklahoma Sooners supporters are turning on Bob Stoops

On Thursday, former Oklahoma Sooners legend Brian Bosworth made headline when he questioned publicly, whether it was time for Bob Stoops to step aside as Oklahoma’s head coach.

Now, another prominent name has said that he too believes Stoops needs to go: “Undisputed” co-host Skip Bayless.

Bayless, Shannon Sharpe and Joy Taylor hosted Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart on their show Friday, and when the conversation turned to Stoops, Bayless, an Oklahoma, native didn’t hold back:

And while Bayless admits that he saw progress last week against TCU, he still doesn’t believe that the Sooners are fixed for the long-term. Actually, it only raised additional questions.

Now obviously there’s a lot to peel back here, but on the surface, Bayless’ points aren’t all that different from Bosworth’s, or the general sentiment of Oklahoma fans. Bayless points to last year’s embarrassing loss to Texas as where his allegiance to Stoops turned, and that seems fair. After all, it was just the latest example of a highly-ranked Oklahoma team coming in and laying an absolute egg in a huge game.

Then, this fall another trend continued: Oklahoma coming into a season highly ranked and falling flat on their faces. It happened when the Sooners faced Houston in Week 1 and got bludgeoned, and things only got worse two weeks later in an embarrassing loss to Oklahoma. It also put Stoops --- like Charlie Strong too --- in a position where Saturday’s game is a virtual must-win.

Stoops obviously won’t be fired with a loss. But it will only add to the growing skepticism around the program.
