Missouri announces hiring of Elarbee as new OL coach

With only a few weeks until signing day, Barry Odom's new staff at Mizzou continues to take shape.

On Monday, the school announced the hiring of Glen Elarbee as the offensive line coach. Elarbee will come to Columbia from Arkansas State -- where he had previously been for the past two seasons. His responsibilities included a co-offensive coordinator role. However, this won't be the case at Missouri.

Throughout Elarbee's career, he's coached at Arkansas State, Middle Tennessee State, Houston, West Georgia, Oklahoma State, and LSU. This past year, ASU averaged over 230 yards per game on the ground -- which placed the Red Wolves 15th nationally in the category.

Elarbee will be tasked with helping a very poor Mizzou rushing attack.

In 2015, the Tigers averaged a paltry 115.4 rushing yards a contest. It ranked Mizzou No. 119 from a national standpoint.

Without question, an improved rushing attack will only aid in the development of soon-to-be sophomore signal-caller Drew Lock. A consistent effort running the football would in theory take pressure off of the young quarterback -- while also opening up things down the field in the passing game.

Missouri became incredibly predictable in regards to its offensive scheme last year, in large part because it couldn't run the football. In obvious passing situations, opposing defenses would bring pressure and tee off on the green quarterback.

Should Elarbee help in this capacity, Lock likely will accrue more success from a statistical standpoint.
