Mississippi State's De'Runnya Wilson sets goal of 20 TD receptions

De'Runnya Wilson has come a long way from the basketball prospect turned football player he was when he arrived at Mississippi State.

Just how far has he come? Wilson has set goals this season that would put the wide receiver's name atop the Mississippi State record book. The thing is, his high aspirations seem very much attainable in only his third season with the team.

“I really want to have 20 touchdowns this year and over 1,000 yards,” Wilson said according to the Clarion Ledger.

Considering the single-season receiving mark in State history is 1,035 yards set by Mardye McDole in 1978 and the touchdown record is 12 set by Chad Bumpkins in 2012, both goals would put Wilson in rare company in the Bulldogs record book.

“I’m just learning the game of football. I got that experience,” Wilson said. “I just want to be better each and every day. This year I know what my expectations are and I want to meet them.”

“I’m trying to win a national championship, first an SEC championship here,” Wilson said. “Do whatever it takes, be the best I can be and I think that’s going to help me throughout the season.”

If Wilson meets the marks he's set for himself, he'll certainly have done his part to help bring a championship to Mississippi State.
