Mississippi State vs. Ole Miss Point Spread Announced
Mississippi State will travel to Oxford, MS for the annual Battle for the Golden Egg.
Mississippi State opened as a 7.5 point underdog vs. Ole Miss.
This game will kickoff at 2:30 Central and be broadcast by SEC Network. With both teams losing in Week 2, this is officially a battle to stay out of the cellar in the West. For OM, it’s also a game that will determine bowl eligibility.
Dan Mullen and his Bulldogs will need the win to keep from losing three straight games to the Rebels. Hopefully Coach Mullen will bring the juice back the the Egg Bowl which has been missing the last two years.
Early in his career, Mullen needled Ole Miss to the point they were infatuated with beating him. After winning his first three Egg Bowls against Houston Nutt, it’s been a different story against Hugh Freeze. Once thought to own Ole Miss and nothing else, Mullen is being owned by Freeze.
Now the stage moves to Oxford, MS. The road team has only won the Egg Bowl three times in the last 17 meetings….but it happened last year. In Dak Prescott’s final regular season game with a Sugar Bowl trip on the line for the winner, MSU came out flat and got their tails kicked in by OM.
After losing the Egg Bowl in 2013, Ole Miss defensive line coach Chris Kiffin claimed the Rebs wouldn’t ever lose to State again. So far the Bulldogs have not made him eat those words. The same words Dan Mullen uttered after winning the 2010 Egg Bowl, which Ole Miss proudly shoved in his face after their 2012 win.
There will be no bigger game for Mississippi State in 2016. This game will make or break the season. Lose and there is a dark cloud over the program and the horror of thrice bragging rights for Ole Miss. Win and all hope is restored as the Golden Egg heads back to Starkville.
