Mississippi State vs. Kentucky Rambling Preview

Mississippi State travels to the bluegrass state to play the Wildcats on Saturday night.

MSU will play in Lexington for the fifth time in eight years under Dan Mullen. Despite the lop-sided home field advantage he’s still never lost to Kentucky. Will he be able to extend that to 8-0?

Kentucky has played better of late but they’re still not a great team. This is a huge game for them as they still have an outside shot at going to a bowl game – which would be their first since 2010.

Ordinarily I try to have a great preview every Friday morning. But this is being posted late Friday afternoon and it’s not great, obviously. Truth is I have a two-fold problem: I’ve been really busy and unable to put together a great preview and uninspired by the prospects of this game.

The season isn’t lost technically, but I know it does feel that way to most MSU fans. At 2-4 with a murder’s row in November, the Egg Bowl looks like the only “bowl” the Dawgs will be playing in. It’s a tough pill to swallow after six straight, but it’s not the end of the world.

State fans have drifted off into politics or enjoying the fall scenery, instead of football. Of course, I’m left with the hardcore fans – that’s you – the folks who read crappy game previews about a game no one else really cares about.

This will be the forgotten game on Saturday night with Ole Miss vs. LSU and Auburn vs. Arkansas. We’ll be locked away on SEC Network as we try to get another conference win and stay out of the West cellar.

I don’t know if State will win. We are favored, however, so Vegas thinks we have a chance. We’ll all just watch the game and hope for the best.
