Michigan State SLB battle down to two

Michigan State lost a returning starter to injury last week when Ed Davis went down with an injury. Monday coach Mark Dantonio indicated to reporters in East Lansing the competition to replace him is down to two players: Jon Reschke and Chris Frey.

"I think Reschke and (Frey) are both in there," Dantonio said. "They're both going to see time at (strong side linebacker)."

Reschke is a 6-foot-2, 228-pound junior while Frey checks in at 6-2, 235.

Reschke had 13 tackles in eight games last season before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. Frey logged 19 stops and recovered a fumble in 13 games.

"Reschke had a very good scrimmage as well," Dantonio said. "Chris Frey is playing well. I think both those guys have an opportunity to play. They've played themselves into the starting position I would say."
