Miami WR Berrios is back from knee injury

Miami will remerge from its bye with a new weapon as wide receiver Braxton Berrios has been cleared to play.

The Hurricanes sophomore wide receiver hurt his left knee on the first possession of Miami’s season-opening win over Bethune-Cookman, but the 5-9, 180-pound wideout practiced on Sunday and will be able to play this weekend when Miami (3-0) hits the road to take on Cincinnati (2-2).

“I was just trying to make a play. That’s instincts. That’ll never change. Got a little bad luck, but we’re rolling, the team’s been rolling, and we’re good,” Berrios told CBS Miami. “I’m back. Feel good.”

Berrios, who has one catch for seven yards on the season, pulled in 21 passes for 232 yards and three touchdowns last year.

His return should help ease the pain of the loss of wide receiver Stacey Coley, who will miss the Cincinnati game with a hamstring injury.

Hurricanes quarterback Brad Kaaya said he likes what he’s seen from Berrios so far.

“He’s still a quick-twitch guy, still fast, runs some good routes,” Kaaya told CBS Miami. “With him, he’s an easy guy to throw to. It shouldn’t be an issue. All the routes that he’s run so far, we’ve connected on pretty well.”
