Miami might look different up front against Virginia Tech

After Miami rushed for a mere 20 yards during its 29-24 loss to No. 11 Florida State on Saturday, the Hurricanes announced they will be making some moves up front.

Miami (3-2, 0-1 ACC) averaged less than two yards per carry versus the Seminoles, prompting head coach Al Golden to shuffle around his offensive line this week at practice.

“Obviously we need to do a better job in the run game, but we fought hard,” Golden told the Palm Beach Post. “We only gave up two sacks in 49 pass attempts. Of course when you play a front like that you’re going to get quarterback hurries and things of that nature. There’s a lot of things we need to improve but I think the effort was there.”

The changes aren’t based solely on performance. Starting center Nick Linder suffered a “neck-type thing,” which also helped inspire the shakeup.

During practice junior left guard Alex Gall slid over to the center spot, while sophomore Kc McDermott has risen off the bench to take the vacant left guard position.

Right guard and captain, Danny Isidora, moved out to right tackle, bumping Sunny Odogwu to the second team. Redshirt freshman Joe Brown was promoted up to the first team to fill Isidora’s spot at right guard.

So far Trevor Darling has managed to stay at left tackle.

The Hurricanes will be back in action this weekend when it hosts Virginia Tech at 3:30 p.m.
