Miami LB Owens to miss rest of the season

When Miami battled Florida Atlantic on Friday it came away with a win but left minus a defensive contributor.

Sophomore linebacker Darrion Owens sustained a right knee injury during the Hurricanes (2-0) 44-20 victory over FAU.

“Darrion Owens will be lost for the season,’’ Miami head coach Al Golden said during his weekly teleconference. “Obviously, a tremendous young man and arguably one of our hardest workers. We feel badly for him. But we have some guys that have got to step up.”

Owens made two tackles on Friday before sustaining a right knee injury in the first quarter against FAU and finished the season with a total of four stops.

Golden said that he will look to Tyriq McCord, Trent Harris and Mike Smith to help fill the void.

The Hurricanes will be back in action this Saturday when they host Nebraska at 3:30 p.m.
