Miami Hurricanes Injury Updates: Thomas and Redwine are Out
The Miami Hurricanes Defense took two more hits to their depth. Miami’s Flagship station, WQAM Miami is reporting that Defense End Chad Thomas and CB Sheldrick Redwine are listed as out against Virginia Tech.
The ‘Canes have no choice but to go next man up. They now have to dip past the two-deep depth chart for players that can contribute. Joe Jackson is listed as Thomas’ backup.
Jackson is another true freshman that will start on Manny Diaz’s defense. Adrian Colbert and Redwine have shared time at right cornerback opposite Corn Elder. HurricaneSports as the starting right cornerback, but Redwine has started the last five games.
Jackson has 12 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks backing up Thomas. He is going to have to step it up as a starter against the Hokies. According to Miami radio analyst Don Bailey Jr, next man up is something the coaching staff has preached to the team beginning in spring practice.
Colbert is a graduate senior that transferred from Texas for his final season of eligibility. He is now the undisputed starter for at least the Virginia Tech game. Colbert has had injury issues of his own. He missed the Florida Atlantic and Appalachian State games with a knee injury.

Colbert was fortunate to have a third week to recuperate without having to miss a third game. The Hurricanes bye week came after the App State game. Colbert returned for the Georgia Tech game October 1.
Colbert has six tackles, one interception and one pass defended in four games. The INT was a 46-yard return against Florida A&M. Colbert’s best season at Texas was 2014 when he had 20 tackles, one interception, and one pass defended.
Trent Harris has been one of the Hurricanes best defensive players this season. He might be the most important player up front defensively against the Hokies. Harris has 10 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and one forced fumble.
Playing on Thursday night has had a huge impact on the “Canes health. WQAM has been reporting throughout the day that two or three of the injured players would be able to play if the Hurricanes were playing Saturday instead of Thursday.
