Miami Hurricanes Dismiss Sam Bruce

Four Star Wide Receiver Recruit Sam Bruce’s tenure at Miami is over before he ever played a down for the Hurricanes. The U issued a statement earlier today that they have dismissed Bruce following “multiple violations” of team rules.

The Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel is reporting that the dismissal encompasses a few things that recently included missing study hall and scheduled therapy sessions in recovery from an off-field broken leg.

Bruce withdrew from St. Thomas Aquinas after a picture of him holding a gun circulated. The incident was related to a love triangle involving an ex-girlfriend of Bruce and a 25-year-old former Aquinas student. Bruce was suspended for the first three games of this season for what was believed to be from the incident involving the picture.

The statement from the University of Miami read in part: “multiple violations of team rules and a failure on his part to meet the clear expectations established to be a part of the Miami football program…We wish Sam well with his future academic and football endeavors,”

Bruce was the highest rated player in Miami’s 2016 recruiting class. He was expected to make an immediate impact this season at Wide Receiver and as a kick returner before he broke his leg in an unspecified off-field incident earlier this year. He was expected to take a medical redshirt this season.

In Bruce’s absence, freshman Ahmmon Richards has emerged as a star. Richards has 15 receptions for 304 yards and a touchdown. He broke out against Appalachian State with four receptions for 142 yards.

Bruce had a stellar career at St. Thomas. He led the Eagles to back to back state championships in 2014-15. Bruce finished his high school career with over 1,300 yards and 21 touchdowns. He dropped out of St. Thomas after the gun incident and finished high school at Westlake Prep.

The school was continually frustrated with Bruce’s disciplinary issues and his inability to be honest with the coaching staff about how he broke his leg. Bruce broke the leg playing basketball which is prohibited for members of the basketball team.
