Memphis' Norvell gets five-year, $9.54 million deal
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) Memphis has given new football coach Mike Norvell a five-year deal that will pay him just over $1.9 million per year.
Under terms of the memorandum of understanding obtained Tuesday through a public records request, Norvell will receive $9.54 million in total compensation over the length of a contract that runs through 2020.
Norvell will be paid $1.8 million in 2016. His pay will increase by $60,000 each of the next three years. Compensation for the fifth year of the deal will be renegotiated. He also gets a sum total of $400,000 for fundraising efforts.
Norvell also will have a pool of $2.51 million for his staff.
Norvell, a former Arizona State offensive coordinator, is replacing Justin Fuente. After going 26-23 in four seasons at Memphis, Fuente left for Virginia Tech.
