McDaniel honing coverage skills, aims to be 'best corner in nation'

Danzel McDaniel was revered for his big hits in his first year at Kansas State, but he's not satisfied with the praise.

In fact, he's not content with the praise at all, as it seemed to overlook the other facets of his game in KSU's secondary.

He's taken it upon himself to make sure he's known for more than just his crushing hits.

“I want to be an all-around corner," McDaniel told reporters on Tuesday. "I want to be the best corner in the nation, so it is just like when I hear Danzel is the best hitting corner in the nation I be like, I want to be the best all-around corner in the nation. I took that to heart this offseason during conditioning.”

With his focus on becoming a better all-around defender, McDaniel says he's taken his attention away from hitting.

“I am not really worried about it anymore,” he said. “I want to be able to hit the receiver hard. I want to be able to hit the running back hard. But I want to be able to break up the pass and take the ball from him, too. I am not worried about hitting the receiver hard. I am just worried about making sure he gets no catches.”
