McBride's defense led to points for UR
College football: McBride plays led to Spiders' points
University of Richmond linebacker Eric McBride was named CAA defensive player of the week, and his 11-tackle total in an 11-10 win at Massachusetts obviously was part of the reason.
But more specifically, plays by the 6-2
McBride 231-pounder led to five points for UR during the low-scoring game:
* On UMass' second possession, McBride tackled Anthony Nelson for a 3-yard loss on second and 11 from the UMass 10. McBride broke up a pass on third and 14. UMass punter Caleb Violette had to kick from his end zone, failed to handle a high snap and the ball bounced out of the end zone for a safety.
* Late in the third quarter, a blitzing McBride blindsided UMass quarterback Kyle Havens, causing a fumble recovered by the Spiders' Darius McMillan at the UMass 23. UR cashed in for a 33-yard field goal by Wil Kamin.
"I wouldn't trade Eric McBride for the world," UR coach Latrell Scott said of the fifth-year senior from L.C. Bird High. "He's one of the best kids you could ever coach, on and off the field."
