Maryland names starting quarterback for opener
Maryland football has a new man to lead Terrapin offense in 2015: Perry Hills is listed as the No. 1 quarterback on the depth chart published by the school Friday ahead of the season opener against Richmond.
A junior from Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School, Hills beat out seniors Caleb Rowe and Daxx Garman.
Rowe played four games last season before suffering a knee injury that kept him out of spring ball. He is listed as the No. 2 quarterback on the published depth chart.
Garman is a graduate transfer from Oklahoma State who started eight games for the Cowboys last season.
Hills started seven games for Maryland in 2012 and played in three off the bench last season. He has completed 102 of 179 passes for 1,423 yards with nine touchdowns and seven interceptions as a Terp. He was a Scout.com three-star recruit and the No. 2-rated quarterback in Pennsylvania in 2012.
Despite missing spring ball, Rowe was considered the favorite to win the quarterback battle this fall. He completed 34 of 54 passes for 489 yards and five touchdowns last season with four interceptions.
Garman arrived in the summer with a resumé that include 2,041 passing yards and 12 touchdowns in 2014 at Oklahoma State.
