Mark Helfrich talks Jeff Lockie, Oregon QB competition

Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich went through ESPN's "carwash" today and spoke about QB Jeff Lockie and the Ducks' impending QB battle.

Helfrich addressed the QB battle, which will take place between Lockie and incoming graduate transfer Vernon Adams. of the QBs, Helfrich said he all they need to do is "Score. To take care of the football and score." Helfrich went on to add "The key in all that is our team. Our program, our coaching staff. We all have a ton of confidence in each other and those guys. Our team will play for whoever that is."

As for Lockie, Helfrich said the he "had a tremendous spring, [he] had actually a more efficient spring than Marcus Mariota." That's saying something.

According to ESPN's Mark Schlabach, Helfrich said that "the biggest thing is [Lockie] needs to be himself. There's no single chesspiece in replacing Marcus [Mariota]."

As for a parting statement on the QB competition and how the team is feeling about both players, Helfrich said, "We will be ready to go. Those guys will compete and our guys will play for whoever is in there."
