LSU Tigers Recruiting Profile: Defensive Back Grant Delpit

This is the second installment in a new series here at Death Valley Voice. Twice a week for the rest of the season, we will give a player profile on a recruit who has verbally committed to play for the LSU Tigers in 2017. Each profile will include a brief summary of the player’s game, his strengths and weaknesses, and high school highlights. We began with quarterback Lowell Narcisse, and we continue with Grant Delpit.

Grant Delpit of IMG Academy has garnered praise as one of the top high school safeties in the country, and for good reason. Delpit posses a great combination of physical talent and abilities, as well as good instincts and a knack for making plays. He is a defensive back who gets his hands on a lot of passes, and when he manages to snag one, he is always a threat to take it to the house.

One of Delpit’s biggest assets is his abnormal height and length at the safety position. Standing at 6’2″ with a long frame, his physical ceiling is extremely high. He is a very well-rounded defensive back, and has consistently shown that he is comfortable both covering receivers downfield and laying a big hit on a running back.

He occasionally sacrifices good tackling technique in order to try to lay a big hit, but with his natural playmaking ability, it’s hard to blame him. Some say that his combination of aggressiveness and great athleticism can be a detriment to his team at times, but with the results he produces on a consistent basis, the occasional blunder is something you can live with.
