Louisville's Ross suspended, charged with assaulting police officer

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Louisville has suspended redshirt sophomore safety Terrence Ross after his arrest early Sunday morning on several charges including assaulting a police officer.

Ross faces a Wednesday court appearance after Louisville Metro Police charged him for disorderly conduct, marijuana possession and third-degree assault of a police officer. The university announced the suspension Sunday night, saying in a statement that it is "aware of the situation and is continuing to gather information. ... the matter will continue to be evaluated."

The 6-foot-1 Apopka, Florida, native returned two kickoffs for 28 yards in the Cardinals' 37-14 loss to Georgia in the Belk Bowl. Ross played in three games last season for Louisville.
