Louisville Football: The time may be now or never for James Quick
With only four regular season games left remaining to senior wide receiver James Quick, the time may be now or never.
James Quick entered his senior season with the Louisville football team with a lot to prove. He had shown moments of greatness, but what everyone was looking for was consistency. Quick had struggled with drops in the past, however he started the 2016 season off playing his best football yet.
That was until he ran out of bounds one yard short of the first down in Clemson back on October 1st. Yes, the marker should have been on the sideline, but I have a feeling that he will want to forget that play for the rest of his life.
Ever since that fateful night in South Carolina, James Quick hasn’t been the same player for the Cardinals. Over the last three games, he has only caught a total of 9 passes for 80 yards. Not to mention, he didn’t register one reception against Virginia last week.
He dropped two, maybe three official passes against the Cavaliers and we didn’t see him for the rest of the game. That is not a good sign for a guy entering his last month of college football and looking to make a career in the NFL.
That is why we are saying that the time is now or never for James Quick to revive his senior season. The Cardinals need him if they want to win these next four games and he needs to show up.
With four strong games in a row, Quick can end his collegiate football career on a high note. Not to mention, Louisville will have a huge bowl game at the end of the year. If he can have huge games to finish the season, he may have a chance at making it into the NFL.
However, it would be extremely hard to ignore the lack of production and rise in drops over the last month if you’re an NFL General Manager. There is more than one part of his game that would make an NFL team pump the brakes on drafting him, but he always tends to show up for the big games.
In the National Football League, every game is a big game.
With that being said, he can’t just be the deep threat receiver that he has been in college if he wants to play in the NFL. If that was the case, then DeVante Parker would be the best receiver in the league, but he isn’t even close right now. The bad news for Quick is that he isn’t near the receiver that Parker was at Louisville.
The time is now for James Quick. He needs to have a big game against Boston College or we may not see him for the rest of the season. Not saying he won’t play, but there are way too many talented young receivers who have been making plays in his absence.
