Louisville football: The most impressive statistic from the Charlotte game

Louisville football and Sophomore quarterback Lamar Jackson dominated the Charlotte 49ers on their way to a 70-14 victory Thursday evening.

The first game of the 2016 season could not have gone better for the Louisville football team. Charlotte was obviously a weaker opponent, but the Cardinals displayed their complete dominance for four quarters. If Lamar Jackson would have played the entire game, it would not have been out of the question that Louisville would have scored 100 points.

Jackson scored a total of eight touchdowns in the first half of this contest. It was an incredible display of athleticism that Cardinal fans, or Charlotte fans for that matter, will not forget anytime soon. However, as impressive as that statistic is, that is not the main focus of this article. The focus is on a statistic that shows just how many weapons this Louisville offense truly has.

According to ESPN, there were 16 different players that had a reception in the game against Charlotte. Lamar Jackson and Kyle Bolin did an incredible job of going through his progressions and finding open receivers. It was amazing how wide open that some of these players were when grabbing their receptions. Clearly, it was more than Charlotte’s defense was able to handle.

Make no mistake about it, it doesn’t matter who the Cardinals face, they will have an advantage over any defensive personnel. Louisville has an extremely dangerous offense due to the offensive experience they have across the board. The Cardinals have receivers, tight-ends and running backs that can beat you in the passing game.

Opposing defenses have to stay true to their assignments on the field, while also paying attention to Jackson’s running ability. That is going to be a recipe for disaster for opposing defensive coordinators.

The schedule will only get tougher for a Louisville team looking to win their first ACC Championship. The Cardinals will head up north next Friday to face Syracuse in their first ACC match-up of this early 2016 season.

If the Cardinals can continue to spread the ball around, they will surely walk out of the Carrier Dome victorious.
