Louisville Football: Looking ahead towards the Marshall game

It’s now time to move on from Louisville football’s great win over the Seminoles and being preparing for the Marshall Thundering Herd.

This has been a game for the Louisville football team that many fans have been worried about throughout the offseason. It comes between the two biggest games of the season for Louisville and it will be a packed house in Marshall on Saturday night. However, this Louisville team will be way too much for Marshall to handle.

With that being said, let’s still take a look at what Louisville is going to be up against, on the road, this coming Saturday night at 8:00pm.

The Thundering Herd have started the season with two straight home games. The won their first game against Morgan State 62-0 and then lost last weekend to Akron 65-38. It looks like their scoreboard is getting used to having 60 points being put on the board. It’s probably a safe bet that Louisville’s offense will run that kind of number on Saturday evening.

Chuck McGill from Marshall’s official athletic website had this quote from his article on Saturday:

In the wake of Saturday’s 65-38 loss to visiting Akron, the Marshall University football team started to eye the next challenge: Louisville.

The first task, however, is to move past the loss to the Zips.

“Go forward,” said Ryan Yurachek, MU’s junior tight end. “There’s no more you can do. This is a game; it’s behind us. You’ve got to flush it down the toilet.

“You saw the score of the Louisville game. We probably have one of the top three teams in the country coming in here next week. You’ve got to go back to work.”

It has to be a little concerning for the Thundering Herd to lose a home game, giving up 65 points the week before you play Heisman Trophy front-runner, Lamar Jackson. Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino won’t let the Cardinals be anything but focused coming into the Marshall game, for they have too much to lose now that they are the third ranked team in the nation.

The Louisville game will be the first of two straight ACC games for Marshall, as they play Pittsburgh on the road on October 1st. That will be another tall task for this Thundering Herd football team.

Here are some offensive statistics, through the first two games of the season, for Marshall:

Passing:

    Rushing:

      Receiving:

At the end of the day, Marshall isn’t going to have enough fire power and defensive talent to keep up with the Cardinals. All the questions about Lamar Jackson were mostly answered against the Seminoles last weekend. Marshall would have to play a better game than they have ever played in order to have a small chance of beating Louisville.

That’s not being arrogant, it’s just fact. The Thundering Herd have a great offense for a Conference USA school, but it isn’t anything that the Cardinals will not have faced before.

Look for Louisville to continue their streak of at least 60 points in this game against the Marshall Thundering Herd.
