Louisville Football: 3 Former Cardinals May Be Out Sunday For The Jets

We take a look at three former Louisville football players that are dealing with injuries and what their status is for the 49ers game.

It doesn’t come as a surprise that the New York Jets are just plain bad season. They are currently 3-9, while trying to finish this 2016 season off on a positive note. It looks as though they may have to do that without three former Louisville football players, at least for this weekend against the San Fransisco 49ers.

Lorenzo Mauldin and Calvin Pryor have been doing their best to contribute this season, but nothing has gone right for New York this year. What was once a great defense, was turned into a laughing stock against the Indianapolis Colts last Monday night on ESPN.

At the same time, Breno Giacomini has been blocking for an offense that has also fallen way short of expectations in 2016.

To make things even worse, all three of these former Cardinals were on the injury report for this upcoming game against the 49ers.

This is what Connor Hughes from NewJersey.com had in his article about the Jets’ weekly injury report:

“On Friday, coach Todd Bowles ruled out defensive tackle Steve McLendon(hamstring), right tackle Breno Giacomini (calf, lower back) and linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin (ankle).”

There is one thing that we know for sure about this Sunday; at least Giacomini and Mauldin will be out no matter what. It’s more unfortunate for Mauldin because he needs this “garbage-time” at the end of the Jets’ season to continue to gain experience.

Standing on the sideline, while not in pads will not help his case going forward. However, when he’s injured, there’s nothing that he can do, but hope to get healthy fast.

With that being said, things are looking a little more optimistic for Calvin Pryor.

“On a positive note, it does sound like defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson (ankle) and safety Calvin Pryor (concussion) have a chance to play. Bowles said he’s “more optimistic than pessimistic” regarding Wilkerson, while Pryor is close to exiting the concussion protocol.

“Pryor is to be determined,” Bowles said. “He could be cleared later today.”

It sounds like out of all the former Louisville football players on the Jets, the only two players that could suit up on Sunday is Bilal Powell and Calvin Pryor.

They will be going up against an equally unimpressive team in the 49ers, with a chance to pickup their fourth win of the season.
