Lamar scores on blocked FG to beat Incarnate Word, 27-21

BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — Lane Taylor blocked a 40-yard field goal attempt and Caleb Abrom scooped up the loose ball and returned it 66 yards for the game-winning score as time expired, giving Lamar a 27-21 Southland Conference victory over Incarnate Word on Saturday afternoon.

Darrel Colbert Jr. scored from the 1 to put Lamar on top, 21-14 early in the fourth quarter, but Incarnate Word answered with a nine-play, 75-drive to tie the game at 21-21 on Jon Copeland's 4-yard pass to Lamont Johnson.

Incarnate Word (3-3, 3-1) drove 65 yards in 11 plays in the final two minutes to set up Cody Seidel's 40-yard field goal attempt with :12 left.

Copeland finished with 515 yards on 39 of 56 passing for the Cardinals, throwing two touchdown passes but also four interceptions.

Colbert was 14 of 25 for 254 yards and two touchdowns for Lamar (2-4, 1-3).
