Kentucky pass rusher Hatcher suspended for 2 games

One of Kentucky's most talented players has been suspended for the first two games of the season, according to fan site A Sea of Blue.

Outside linebacker Jason Hatcher, who did not appear at the team's media day last week, will sit out the Wildcats' first two games, coach Mark Stoops said Saturday. Stoops did not specify the reason for the suspension other than to refer to it as a violation of team rules and clarify that it was a university suspension.

Hatcher, a junior who came to Lexington as a four-star recruit, has 47 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in his career and is expected to be the team's top pass rushers this season. According to A Sea of Blue, Stoops said that -- suspension notwithstanding -- Hatcher has otherwise put himself in position to be an impact player this year.

Hatcher also was suspended for a violation of team rules as a freshman in 2013 and was cited for marijuana possession last year.

Kentucky's first two games are against Louisiana-Lafayette and South Carolina.
