Kentucky’s Football season garnered two big awards recently when senior center Jon Toth being named Associated Press first team All-Southesatern Conference. Meanwhile, sophomores Jordan Jones and Mike Edwards earned second team All-SEC honors. .

Toth was the leader of an offensive line unit that helped the Cats turn their season around in 2016 on the strength of an outstanding running game. Kentucky ranks 17th nationally, rushing for 1,855 yards on the season, for 241.3 yards per game and an average of 5.52 yards per rushing attempt.

At 6-5, 310 pounds, Toth has started 47 consecutive games for the Cats, including 47 games in a row. According to UK Athletics, Toth has been credited with 69 knockdown blocks and 195 blocks at the point of attack this season, making him instrumental in two Wildcats rushing for more than 1,000 yards apiece.

One of the bigger surprises this season on defense for Kentucky was the emergence of Jordan Jones. At 6-2, 220 pounds, Jones finished the season with 100 total tackles, good for third in the SEC with 8.3 per game. Jones also recorded 70 solo tackles this season, ranking him 11th in the country.

Though the defense bent at times this season, when it didn’t break it was most often due to the play of Jones, who matured into an absolute tackling machine for the Kentucky defense.

When it wasn’t Jones making the play, odds favored Edwards making a play in the secondary, as the Cincinnati native led the conference among defensive backs in tackles with 93 on the season, averaging 7.8 per game. The 6-foot, 200-pound safety led the team in interceptions with three, including an unforgettable two-incerception performance in the key win over Heisman Trophy candidate Lamar Jackson and Louisville.
