K-State coach Snyder keeps his starting quarterback a secret

Who will start at quarterback for Kansas State against the Arkansas Razorbacks in today's Liberty Bowl? You'll just have to wait.

K-State coach Bill Snyder has remained on the fence -- at least publicly -- when it comes to picking his starter: Either Joe Hubener, the second-string quarterback who took over for injured Jesse Ertz in the season-opener, or Kody Cook, the senior wide receiver who has filled in surprisingly well under center in emergency stints.

On Friday, Snyder continued to play coy.

"I’ll tell you tomorrow … after the game,” Snyder said during Friday's Liberty Bowl press conference.

Hubener has been a tough competitor, but also inconsistent most of the season. Cook saved the day in the regular-season finale victory against West Virginia, rallying the team to a third consecutive victory that got it to 6-6 and bowl eligible. Hubener and Cook have received equal practice reps this week.

Arkansas coach Bret Bielema, a one-time defensive coordinator under Snyder at K-State, had a little fun with the situation when asked about his team's preparation.

“I think we have it narrowed down to the two or three guys,” Bielema said. “Outside of that box, we might be in trouble. I’ve been with him a couple of times on these type of decisions — not that I had any input when I was with him — but I know he tends to take those things at bay. I’m not surprised."
