Justin Thomas called on to lead Georgia Tech over the summer

One of Georgia Tech's primary focuses this spring was to protect quarterback Justin Thomas.

Now, it's time for him to return the favor.

Head coach Paul Johnson is challenging his quarterback to develop his role as a team leader this summer, according to Ken Suguira of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Thomas, who wore a non-contact jersey throughout the spring, saw a lot of his offensive teammates go down with injuries. It's on him to stay on top of all the moving parts and replacement pieces.

"Last year, those guys kind of took me under their wing and I just kind of developed as time went along," Thomas told Suguira. "Now, having been out there for a year and gotten the experience I’ve gotten, the younger guys, I’ve got to take them under my wing, try to develop them the best way I can."

Thomas impact was felt last season, his first as Tech's starting quarterback, as he threw for 1,719 yards and 18 touchdowns, while also adding 1,086 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.
