Juggling two jobs, Mendendall doing his best to motivate BYU one last time
Bronco Mendenhall will coach BYU one last time in the Las Vegas Bowl on Saturday, but it's easy tp see why his mind could be elsewhere. He has a large challenge at Virginia looming.
“It’s a matter of compartmentalizing,” Mendenhall said, adding that he's spending as much time as possible getting his team ready for this bowl game. “It’s two jobs at once right now.”
Though Mendenhall is leaving BYU, by all accounts, it's on good terms. And this is a huge game for the program, being against in-state rival Utah, for both bragging rights and recruiting reasons.
“The emotions played out before we left. From the time the announcement was made until we started practicing again, that’s really when the biggest swing was,” Mendenhall said. “I can’t say business as usual, but the emotions are flattened out now that I’ve been back with our team … I think it’s going to be game-mode as the head coach in a rivalry game. Emotions are part of that game.”
