JUCO linebacker commits to Kansas, adds depth to 2016 class

The junior-college recruits continue to flock to Kansas for its 2016 class.

Shortly after the Jayhawks nabbed a JUCO offensive lineman for 2016, they have added another JUCO recruit in linebacker Jayd Kirby, according to JayhawkSlant.com.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker from Navarro Junior College in Corsicana, Texas (halfway between Waco and the Dallas-Fort Worth area) is expected to graduate early and head over to Lawrence in the winter.

According to KU Sports, Kirby garnered interest from a variety of Power 5 programs—including Arizona State and the Big 12's TCU, Texas Tech, and Baylor—but was waiting on them to have positions open for scholarships.

After a visit to Lawrence last weekend, Kirby made up his mind.

"Being around all of the coaches and getting out there and seeing the program was great," Kirby said of his visit. "It felt like I was part of the family already. I am relieved everything is finally coming to an end. I am comfortable knowing where I'm going. I'm happy with the decision and I feel like I am finally able to breathe again."
