Is Jeff Jones the 'X-Factor' for the Gophers this fall?
Jeff Jones might be a name that Gophers fans aren't too familiar with due to him being academically ineligible last season.
However, the redshirt freshman just could be a big weapon for the Gophers this fall. The team will need playmakers to replace Maxx Williams who was drafted in the second round by the Baltimore Ravens and David Cobb who was picked in the fifth round by the Tennessee Titans.
Jones was in a crowded backfield this spring but the coaches noticed him playmaking ability and moved him outside to wide receiver. By all accounts, he has responded well to the switch. This is what Jerry Kill had to say via ESPN:
“He needs to play outside at receiver some, Kill said, because he can run and go get the football. I’m very pleased with where he’s at right now, a very football-smart kid.”
If the newly minted speedy wideout can produce some explosive plays, it could add a whole different element to the Gophers attack.
