Indiana's Griffin Oakes named Big Ten's best kicker; 5 others honored

Indiana kicker Griffin Oakes was picked as the Big Ten kicker of the year Monday and made the All-Big Ten first team. 

A sophomore, Oakes leads the conference in field goal percentage (88.0) and field goals (22). 

He is also third in the Big Ten in points per game at 9.5, a mark that leads all kickers. 

Oakes has also proven to be a weapon on kickoffs, notching a conference-best 51 touchbacks on 83 kickoffs. 

Along with specialists, the Big Ten announced its defensive all-conference teams, including five Hoosiers in all. 

Receiving honorable mention were defensive linemen Darius Latham and Nick Mangieri, linebackers Zach Shaw and Marcus Oliver and return man Mitchell Paige. 

The conference plans to announce the offensive all-conference players Tuesday.
