Indiana 34, Purdue 31, OT

Ben Chappell had a record-breaking day for Indiana, and Mitch Ewald booted two short field goals late, giving Indiana a 34-31 overtime victory at Purdue to win back the Old Oaken Bucket on Saturday.

It's the first time since 1996 that Indiana has won in West Lafayette.

The Hoosiers (5-7, 1-7 Big Ten) ended a 12-game Big Ten losing streak, a 15-game skid against league teams away from Memorial Stadium and avoided their first winless conference season since 1995 - barely.

Ewald capped a 14-play drive by making a 26-yard field goal with 9 seconds left in regulation to force the first overtime game in the 113-game series.

Purdue (4-8, 2-6) got the ball first in overtime, but on the Boilermakers' third play, Rob Henry was picked off by freshman linebacker Jeff Thomas.

Chappell wasted no time in winning it. He threw a 14-yard strike down the middle to tight end Ted Bolser. Chappell and Trea Burgess had a mix-up on the next play, but Burgess fell on the fumble for a 1-yard gain. Burgess was tackled for a 3-yard loss on the next play, and coach Bill Lynch then sent Ewald in to kick the 31-yard field goal on third down.

Ewald knocked it right down the middle to win it - sending Hoosiers players running to the Purdue sidelines to take the trophy.

Chappell had a huge day in his final college game. He was 31 of 50 for 330 yards with three touchdowns, breaking Indiana's single-season record for yards passing. Chappell finished with 3,295. Kellen Lewis set the previous mark (3,043) in 2007.

Chappell also ends his Hoosiers career as the all-time leader in completions, pass attempts and completion percentage.

Tandon Doss caught eight passes for 64 yards and three scores - and just missed hauling in a potential winner before Ewald's field goal at the end of regulation.

Henry had a career-high 252 yards passing and three TDs. He was 16 of 30.

But it was the one interception that cost Purdue the win.

The Boilermakers took a 31-28 lead on Carson Wiggs' 36-yard field goal with 5:41 left in regulation, and appeared to have it sealed when Ben Chappell and Damarlo Belcher missed on a third down pass with 4:19 left. But Purdue was called for pass interference and Chappell got Indiana in position for the field goal.
