Illinois Football: Illini Will Try to Keep the Cannon in Champaign
The Illinois football team takes the field today under a brilliant blue and sunny sky, but will the results be as pleasant as the weather?
The Illini face the Purdue Boilermakers in a must-win game today. The weather will be a complete non-factor on the field.
Mostly sunny skies and a temperature of about 68 to 70 at kickoff, according to most outlets.
A slight breeze. No precipitation. No excuses. This is a great day to tailgate so get your behinds to the game people!
This is a must-win game because the Illini’s schedule gets very hard after today.
They have a road game against Rutgers next week. Another must win against an equally struggling team. Of course, a road game is always fraught with peril, regardless of the opponent, but we need to win that game.
More from Writing Illini
After a visit to Piscataway, the Illini go to the Big House to take on the formidable Michigan Wolverines. This is a game we can only hope sees the Illini overachieve and the Wolverines fall short of expectations.
And yet, even then, I think we all know how that game will turn out.
Then the Illini play Minnesota at home on October 29 in another critical win situation (assuming they beat Purdue and Rutgers).
Michigan State visits the following week. After seeing the Hoosiers take them out, I believe we can win that game.
In fact, again, if things are going relatively well and the Illini are 4-4 going into this, a win could be season defining.
After that, we are at Wisconsin, at home against Iowa, and then a match against Northwestern in Evanston. That might be the deciding game. If so, I will be very happy that we are in that position.
As for the game against Purdue today, well, suffice to say we need to keep this!
