Hokies Release Injury Report for Syracuse
The Hokies appear to have survived two injury scares from last Saturday at North Carolina.
Coach Justin Fuente and the 17th-ranked Virginia Tech Hokies enter Saturday’s tilt with the Syracuse Orange in the Carrier Dome healthier than some may have expected.
In a rain-soaked affair last Saturday in Chapel Hill, the Hokies suffered injury scares with two key contributors, one on each side of the ball, leading to questions throughout preparation this week as to whether or not the individuals would play.
All-ACC and All-American candidate Isaiah Ford left the game in the third quarter with an apparent ankle injury. He was limited in practice this week, but was not listed on the injury report and will start against the Orange. Despite not recording a reception for the first time in his career against North Carolina, Ford still leads the team in receiving yards and sits 7th overall in the ACC in that department heading into the Week Seven action.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Virginia Tech faithful were holding their collective breath when redshirt freshman defensive tackle Tim Settle limped off the field favoring his left knee early in the fourth quarter. Like Ford, Settle was also limited throughout the week in practice, but is also expected to start for the Hokies on the interior defensive line.
Through five games of his first collegiate season, Settle has seen an uptick in playing time with each passing game, recording eight total tackles and registering a blocked kick as well. While the stats may not be all that impressive, Settle’s imposing 6’3″, 328 lbs. frame in the middle of the line has wreaked havoc for opposing offensive lines to date, which is a welcomed sight as he continues to grow more comfortable each week.
