High school coach calls USC's latest pledge 'a monster on the field'

The South Carolina recruiting train continues to roll on at a frenetic pace leading up to signing day on Feb. 3.

On Thursday, the Gamecocks garnered a pledge from 2016 athlete Robert Tucker. Tucker selected South Carolina over offers from Indiana, Louisville, Minnesota, and North Carolina State, among others.

At 6'3", 237 pounds, the Atlanta native offers Will Muschamp some versatility on the offensive side of the ball. Tucker isn't a "true" tight end from a size standpoint. However, his skill-set perfectly meshes with the H-back position -- a pseudo tight end with the capabilities to be lined up at multiple spots.

Tucker's toughness and hand-eye coordination is impressive. With Jerell Adams departing via graduation, South Carolina doesn't have much in the way of tight end depth on its roster. Tucker could come in early and see some time as a pass-catching threat.

Via an interview with The State, Tucker's high school coach Joshua Moore gushed about Tucker as both a player and individual.

"He's a great teammate. He's a good student, a good all-around kid. Once he puts the helmet and pads on he turns into a different person. He turns into a monster out there on the field."
