Harvey postpones Prairie View-Texas Southern game
(STATS) - Texas Southern has postponed Saturday's SWAC game against Prairie View A&M until late November as a result of the rain and historic flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey in southeast Texas.
The game at BBVA Compass Stadium will become the regular-season finale for both teams over the Thanksgiving holiday - one week prior to the SWAC championship game, also scheduled in Houston.
"It has been decided between both institutions that it is best interest of all parties involved that the Labor Day Classic football game be postponed and rescheduled for the week of Thanksgiving on an exact date that has not yet been determined," said TSU vice president of athletics Dr. Charles McClelland.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those that have been impacted by the severe weather and catastrophic flooding that has occurred over the past several days, and we thank everyone that sent well wishes and prayers on behalf of our band, student-athletes and staff as they traveled back from Tallahassee, Florida, this past weekend."
Texas Southern lost its season opener 29-7 at Florida A&M on Saturday and returned to Houston on Sunday. The Tigers next host Houston Baptist on Sept. 7.
Prairie View's first game has become a home matchup versus No. 3 Sam Houston State on Sept. 7. The hurricane also postponed Sam Houston's first game against No. 7 Richmond in Huntsville, Texas, and it's been rescheduled for Friday night at Baylor University in Waco.
