Harbaugh passing test with former Wolverines

For all the headlines he has generated since late December, Jim Harbaugh won't be able to win his first game as Michigan head coach until September.

He has already started to win over some who wore the winged helmet in the past, though.

"I know for the former players at Michigan, we're just thrilled to have him get the job," former Wolverines quarterback Todd Collins told the Detroit News. "We've seen what he's done at the other spots. He's going to bring back the brand of Michigan football that I think everybody wants to see and what this program was built on.”

The man who held the starting job at Michigan before him, Elvis Grbac, seemed to agree -- while also maintaining a realistic view of the immediate future.

"Time will tell," Grbac told the News. "Look at his record at Stanford, it's going to take time, he's got to get kids in. I think he's on the right track. You could say he's a Michigan guy, he's old tradition, but he knows being at the other level, the higher level, that you have to produce. He understands that."
